Product detailed description

One cup contains a little less caffeine than coffee, but you will energise your body nice and slowly. Your new friend guayusa is grown in the mountainous regions of the Ecuadorian Amazon, under the watchful eye of the indigenous communities. They grow it in a traditional, eco-friendly way and with great respect for mother nature. Just like the indigenous inhabitants of the Amazon, you too can treat yourself to a guayusa drink today. With every cup, you will enjoy its harmonising effects, a clearer mind, and the great feeling that comes from knowing you support the health of the rainforest and small farmers from the indigenous communities.

What should you know about this drink?

Once upon a time, every day in the jungle started with a morning guayusa drink. Family members used to meet by the fire before sunrise, sip guayusa from gourd bowls, tell each other their dreams, share old and new stories, and speak about things that needed to be done that day. In this way, wisdom was passed from generation to generation.

In addition to this ritual aspect, the indigenous people also claim that guayusa helps to clear the mind, awakens the spirit and provides energy for all-day work. It is no coincidence that guayusa is nicknamed the “night watchman”.

One cup of this drink contains a little less caffeine (90-110 mg / 200 ml) than a cup of coffee (100-160 mg / 200 ml), but more than the content of tein in tea (40-60 mg / 200 ml). It also contains theobromine found in significantly larger quantities in cocoa beans, and L-theanine which acts as a counterpart of caffeine and induces feelings of relaxation. Compared to coffee or tea, guayusa provides a gradual stimulation, and does not cause any trembling, shaking, or feelings of nervousness in most people.

Where does guayusa come from?

This responsible producer obtains guayusa from a small local production of indigenous communities in Ecuador. More specifically from the Western part of the country, near the Peruvian border. The plant does not thrive anywhere else in the world. The affiliated growers belong to the original ethnic groups of the region, Quechua and Shuar. They grow their guayusa in a completely traditional way, passed down from generation to generation. The manufacturer buys it directly from them, at fair prices and without any intermediaries. The ecological production of guayusa helps ensure a sustainable source of income for local communities and contributes to reforestation and maintaining the natural biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest.

How is “green guayusa” made?

In the first place, it is necessary to prevent natural oxidation and fermentation of freshly harvested leaves using quick changes of temperatures. This is achieved relatively easily - by briefly steaming the leaves. This is followed by gradual drying with minimal light. This is the only way to preserve the maximum of nutrients and active ingredients.

Unfortunately, we can’t tell you more about the health effects of this plant. Our tongue is tied by current EU legislation, which does not allow us to state even one extra letter about food supplements. For more detailed information, look up some non-selling websites.

How can you prepare this wholesome drink?

  • Add 1 teaspoon of powder to a cup of boiling water.
  • Stir and let steep for 5 minutes.
  • The powder settles on the bottom of the cup, so you do not need to strain it. If you want, however, you can also use a coffee filter or a filter bag. Another great way of preparing guayusa is using a French press.

Behind this Czech brand, there is a team of nature lovers who decided to fill up your morning cup with a “super-tea” made of a beneficial Amazonian plant. In doing this, they want to benefit you as well as the rainforest. They obtain guayusa from a small local production of indigenous communities in Ecuador. It is grown in a traditional way in their chacras - these are farmed “forest gardens” where all the crops the natives need for their sustenance grow in symbiosis. The varied range of crops does not deplete the soil and the plants provide shade and protection from pests to each other. This way of farming does not require synthetic fertilisers, pesticides, or modern technologies. Everything is done as much in harmony with nature as possible. With guayusa, you also provide financial help to the rainforest, as the producer donates part of the profits to the reforestation of deforested areas and protection of endangered species of rainforest woody plants.
